AI-Powered Community Connection and Support App

WUGA Buddy is a mobile app designed to enhance the University of Georgia (UGA) student experience by helping students connect, find resources, and support their wellness through the power of generative AI. Recognizing the challenges many students face in navigating a large campus and finding their place within it, UGA Buddy serves as a virtual guide and connection hub that fosters a more supportive, inclusive UGA community.

The app offers four primary features: personalized buddy matching, tailored event and resource recommendations, a virtual UGA guide, and wellness support. Through the buddy-matching feature, students can connect with like-minded peers based on academic interests, social preferences, and wellness goals. This AI-powered system pairs students who are looking for study partners, event companions, or simply new friends, helping them build meaningful connections.

The event and resource recommendation feature generates a personalized feed of upcoming campus events, workshops, and student groups tailored to each user’s interests. By keeping students aware of relevant opportunities, UGA Buddy encourages active involvement in campus life and increases awareness of UGA’s resources. Users can RSVP to events, set reminders, and even find buddies to attend with, creating an interactive and supportive social network.

The app’s virtual guide, powered by ChatGPT, provides a quick and convenient way to get answers to common questions about UGA. Students can ask the guide about campus locations, club details, and academic support services, making it easier to navigate campus life. For daily wellness support, the app includes a check-in system that allows students to share how they’re feeling and receive empathetic responses, motivational messages, and self-care suggestions. If a student indicates high stress, the app can direct them to mental health resources, reinforcing UGA’s commitment to student well-being.
